March 31st is Run for Office Day — a civic holiday that celebrates the power of everyday people to step forward and lead. For me, it’s also a moment of reflection.

As I’ve traveled across Montgomery County — walking through neighborhoods, meeting families, listening to workers, students, and seniors — one truth has become clear: our local government doesn’t fully reflect the people it serves. In 2024, many county and municipal seats went uncontested. Communities of color and immigrant families remain underrepresented, even though they are the heartbeat of Montgomery County.

When I spoke with residents, I often asked two simple questions: “Why are you running?” and “Why aren’t you?” Their answers stayed with me. Some spoke of inefficiencies and irregularities that made them lose faith in local systems. Others said they felt invisible — that their voice, their experience, didn’t matter in county decisions.

At one point, I found myself asking the same question I heard so often: “Why isn’t someone fixing this?” And then I realized — that someone can’t always be someone else. Sometimes, it has to be you.

That’s when I made the decision to run for Montgomery County Council At-Large.
Because when the system isn’t working for everyone, it’s not enough to point out the problem — we must become part of the solution. I believe our Council should reflect the full diversity, strength, and spirit of Montgomery County. That means standing up for equity, transparency, and opportunity for every resident, in every neighborhood.

Run for Office Day is more than a date on the calendar — it’s an invitation. It’s a reminder that democracy depends on us: the teachers, small business owners, parents, students, and community members who care enough to act.

If you’ve ever asked, “Why doesn’t someone fix this?” — I challenge you to consider that maybe the person you’re waiting for is the one in the mirror.

This March 31st, I encourage you to take the first step toward service. Learn more at https://runforofficeday.com/, and let’s make sure every voice in Montgomery County is heard loud and clear.

Because when we step up together, real change begins right here at home.
